Pahlgham
Pahalgam, a world famous hill station is 45 Kms. from the District Head Quarter at Anantnag and located on the banks of river Lidder at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level. Pahalgam is one among the five tehsils of Anantnag district and tehsil head quarters are located in the main town of Pahalgam. Once a great tourist puller and favourite place for shooting of Bollywood films is perhaps the best health resort in the country. Pahalgam also serves as base camp for the famous Amarnath Ji Yatra.

The Pahalgam Valley presents glamorous look due to its pine forests, snow clad mountains, healthy climate and vast meadows and pastures. Pahalgam skirts Lidder river and torrential flow of water in Lidder river enriches the awesome beauty of the Valley.

Around Pahalgam are many places of interest, and because the resort is set between fairly steep hills, it is worth hiring a pony rather than walking. The most beautiful of these is the huge, undulating meadow of Baisaran, surrounded by thickly wooded forests of pine. Hajan, on the way to Chandanwari, is an idyllic spot for a picnic. Filmgoers will recognize it instantly as it has been the location of several movie scenes.

The Village of nomad is un-spoilt by the ravages of progress. The large brown bear is a natural inhabitant of the thick Pine and Cedar forests. A number of treks in this region also begin from Pahalgam. Pahalgam is base camp for the pilgrims of Amarnath yatra . Chandanwari (2,895 m), 16 kms from Pahalgam, is the starting point of the yatra that takes place every year in the month of Sawan (July to August). Panchtarni 13 km from Sheshnag is a place where five streams meet and its good for camping. Camping equipment, ponies and skiing equipment is readily available.

Sightseeing in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir Aru Valley
Aru Valley is one of tourist's favorite in the area, with lush green grasslands and thick forests, interspersed with modest and playful streams of water and a backdrop of huge silver mountains. An ideal stretch to camp, this one with its sceneries and expanse and is a memorable destination in Pahalgam

Betaab Valley
Star stuck with its connections in the Bollywood, the previously known Hajan Valley was renamed as Betaab Valley after the larger bit of the movie 'Betaab' were shot here. At a walking distance from Pahalgam, located on the way to Chandanwari, the valley offers delineate views complete with snow capped mountains, gurgling streams, colorful willow trees & the warm sun making it a delightful destination.

Amarnath Yatra
Pahalgam is also a host to the famous Amarnath Yatra which takes place each year during the month of Sawan (July to August). It commence from both routes, of Pahalgam and Baltal. Chandanwari which is around 15 km from Pahalgam is the starting point for Amarnath Yatra.

Pahalgam to Chandanwari is easily accessible by taxi. From Chandanwari, pilgrims need to continue their Yatra on foot or on a pony, which takes at least 2 days to reach the cave and back, with an overnight stay in either Shishnag or Panchtarni.

Kolahoi Glacier
Situated over the Lidder River, Kolahoi glacier is a hanging glacier known for its breath taking views. While the only way of reaching this glacier is though trekking, one can also hire ponies or horses for some parts of the journey. The terrains to reach the glacier are extremely challenging and are not advised to be undertaken by inexperienced trekkers.

Lidder River
One of the most popular and loved attractions of Pahalgam is Lidder River which runs through the heart of the town, chiseling out grasslands and glaciers. It is one of the important tributaries of the Indus River. The river can be reached only via trekking and tourists can enjoy angling here. You must however rent trekking equipments from Srinagar itself as there are no shops near the river.Rafting too can be enjoyed here. Moreover, Kolahoi Glacier is a nearby attraction to visit.

Chandanwari
Pahalgam is also associated with Amarnath Yatra as Chandanwari which is the starting point of Amarnath Yatra is situated near Pahalgam.

Mamaleshwara Temple
At a distance of about a kilometer form Pahalgam, is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, constructed purely of stone, by the then King Jayasima. The temple is marked as a significant place of worship in the region and draws pilgrims from all over the state.

Panchtarni
A camper's delight, Panchtarni is one of the most scenic spots around Pahalgam. At a distance of 40 km from the town, it has a narrow path which when traveled leads to the Amarnath caves.

Tulian/Tarsir Lake
Tulian Lake, also known as Tarsir Lake is a beautiful water body near Aru (15km from Pahalgam). The lake is located on a height of 4,000 m above sea level and can be reached by undertaking 2 day long trek from Aru.''The lake remains frozen for most part of the year. Ponies too can be hired to reach the lake.

White River Rafting
Indulge into pure awesomeness in the rivers flowing in and around Pahalgam by rafting in its gentle gradients. A 2km stretch on the Aru branch of Lidder River is the popular rafting spot in Pahalgam. In Pahalgam, white river rafting generally starts in the month of June.

Trekking
With plenty of trekking trails, Pahalgam is the base camp for countless trekkers. Challenging mountain ranges, pristine lakes and lateaus make the region of Pahalgam suitable for all types of trekking. Best time to trek in Pahalgam is from April to June.

Golfing
At an altitude of about 2400 mt above sea level, a nine hole golf course is sported by Pahalgam, also referred to as 'Plateau' by a lot of locals. One can also rent equipments here as well as enjoy the few refreshments available in the premises.

Tulian
Between the Pir Panjar and the Zanskar range is a sparkling blue lake, dotted by chunks of ice during the few times in the year, when isn't frozen completely. At an altitude of 4000m above sea level, the lake demands a 2-day trek from Aru to be reached. One can also hire ponies, available fro this trip to the lake.

City Shopping
While in Pahalgam do shop for woolens, carpets, kaftans, Namaz prayer rugs, Kashmiri handicrafts and tea cosies. Zamindar-Home of Handicrafts, is a shop in Pahalgam where one can not only get carpets and Gabbas but also fantastic shawls and dress materials with some lovely Kashmiri embroidery.
